Hagal Farm is a rural, rustic retreat. It is a traditional farm house with a connected guest cottage. We are a 20 minute drive to the nearest town, Bantry. It was once our family home and health retreat so the space is ideal for medium sized groups, family reunions, workshops, retreats, and for hosting small events.

The Space

An oasis of calm, this rustic home is nestled on the south slope of the Maughnaclea mountains, with breath-taking views over the Mealagh valley and Bantry Bay in the distance. Hagal Farm is surrounded by nature and the beautiful, wild landscape of West Cork, and our gardens reflect that too!

The whole house (2 connected sections) can accommodate up to 18 people. The main house has 4 bedrooms, a cozy living room with a wood burning stove, a large conservatory/ dining area and a spacious well equipped kitchen. The guest annex has 3 en-suite bedrooms, a relaxation suite/ course room - the Skyroom and a sauna. Our home is down to earth and cozy.

Hagal Farm is surrounded by mature, wild and playful gardens including a swing for adults, barbecue area and you can take a wander in the neighboring labyrinth. There are no televisions in the bedrooms, as Hagal Farm is a space for rest, and enjoying quiet and peace. There is a smart TV in the living room in the main house.

Workshops and Courses: Hagal Farm is also a great place to host a workshop. In this scenario the Farm can sleep up to 20 people. Please contact us for more information.

Families with Young Kids and Child Safety

Please note that we have one High Chair and one travel cot. We have a baby gate at the top of the  stairs in the main house and we have a wooden gate that can be put in front of the bottom of the stairs. There are no baby gates by the stair case in the Annex.
Families with infants and toddlers should be aware that this property is an old farmhouse with many levels and steps. Also the house is not 100% baby proofed (we don't have child locks on cabinets etc)

Our gardens also has uneven surfaces and a few ponds so young children should not be left unsupervised.

The Neighbourhood

Hagal Farm is the place for you , if you enjoy the country side, nature and quiet!! We are reasonably 'far out', some would even call it 'in the middle of nowhere!'
The nearest village to us is KealKill. It's around 7km away. This has one grocery shop and two pubs! :)
Bantry, a lively seaside town, is 12km from us and it has numerous shops, restaurants, bars, a large supermarket and a cinema. It also has a great Organic shop and cafe. This is our main town, and it's around 20 mins drive from the Farm. (Kealkill is around 12 min drive away)

Make sure to visit the Bantry market on a Fri morning!

Bantry House is a lovely old estate with beautiful gardens that you can visit. There is a golf course in Bantry and the local hotel has a leisure centre open to the public. There are loads of beautiful walks in the area, the nearest one is just on Hagal's doorstep, (sheeps head way) which continues out all along the peninsula. Glengarriff is a tourist town 24km away, which has lovely Irish tourist shops, beautiful old woodlands, boat trips to Garnish Island (Italian Gardens), Ewe Gardens and more.

Getting Around

Please do realise that we are 12km out off Bantry town! So make sure you arrive with your shoppings done! There is no public transport. Only a bus on a Friday morning to our weekly Bantry market! Please ask us to give you the numbers of our well known and trusted taxi drivers! We have two bicycles which you could borrow, but a cycle to Bantry - and more so from Bantry, uphill, is quite challenging!!
